About
Amongst the drunken and drug fuelled nights of wakefield city, where the glass cracks beneth your feet like fresh snow on a febuary winter morning, and the howling of deranged voices disturb the streets echoing around the derelict buildings like a pack of starving wolves crying for survival. The blood stained flag stones that have witnessed too many fights and the cold drafty doorways where the tramps tend to lie, this is where new vinyl was born but not where they will die. New Vinyl till we die....................

Reviews and interviews.
Published Date: 28 November 2008
SPEAK to the four members of New Vinyl for more than a couple of minutes and, time and again, one word comes to mind: ambition.
Although that's something possessed by most bands in their position, few have held it as long or as determinedly as the quartet who first got together more than five years ago.
Having armed themselves with a rip-roaring statement of intent in the shape of debut single Makin' It Easy, the door to wider recognition could be about to be thrown open.
The single is launched on Monday at Escobar – but its title is far from being a metaphor for the past half decade's ups and downs, which would have seen many bands call it a day years ago.
Singer Danny Allison said: "One of the things that's kept us together is the belief in our music and knowing that it's getting better and better.
"It hasn't been one drastic change and the basic sound is the same, but we've introduced new things such as keyboards and, comparing now with five years ago, it's quite different.
"Everyone's grown up in that time, we've got to know each other more and become better musicians, so things are bound to have moved on."
And having listened to the final mix of Makin' It Easy, which was recorded in the HD1 studio where the likes of Embrace, Cud, Fran Healey and Terrorvision have laid down tracks, I can confirm they've progressed miles beyond those Oasis-lite barbs once hurled by their critics.
New Vinyl now sound like a band with an instinctive understanding of who they are, where they're going and brimming with the confidence and sharpness that's as much about time together as it is talent.
Much of that sharpness has been honed by a relentless gigging schedule – they're even doing a show in Armley Prison early next month – arranged through a relative who works there.
Guitarist Jonny Davies said: "It's all about going out there, having faith in the songs and getting ourselves known. We could do it over the internet but to do it properly you've got to put the hours in and play the gigs."
"It's a lot of fun as well, out there with your mates visiting places you've never been to before," chipped in Danny, eager to dispel any notion that their work ethic drowns out the priceless buzz of being four lads together in a band.
So there's ambition and a willingness to work for it – but if you want one factor that sets the band apart from their peers, it's an old-fashioned but, arguably, more relevant than ever belief in the power of music to inspire.
Danny holds nothing back in explaining what it means to him: "I've always believed one of the reasons I'm in a band is that I want to change things, to encourage kids to have a goal in life and believe there's something they can do well.
"It's music that makes me want to get up on a morning and make the most of the day. If we can help other people to want to go out and achieve something I'll be
satisfied."

:: New Vinyl ::
01 December 2008 / Demo / 2 Trk CD
By Manuel Ecostos
New Vinyl hail from Wakefield and their swirl of keys and busy, XXL guitars seems to be influenced by The Who. This is a busy attack of melodics and four chord crashes separated by the odd boom and a great guitar break. “Makin’ It Easy” also reminds me of Eddie & The Hot Rods. I’d be satisfied with that but the second track (untitled here) seems a little bit too stabbed out. But amongst, the solid vocal style is individual enough to certainly grab my attention. The CD in general misses the kind of production they really need to pull this off, but the potential is written in big letters across it all. As a result the guitars seem a little to understated, but with a little more application this could build on such a pleasing effort.
