Xtra Mile might well be our favourite record label right now, bringing us a beautiful split single from Rotary Ten and Colour. Rotary Ten are a band sizzling under the surface of a local music scene (this time, Sheffield’s), digressing post-rock in a melodic direction. There are sweet acoustic moments on ‘Time Is Not A Line And I Am Not A Rock’ reeking of Owen and Mike Kinsella at their finest. Lyrics sound ‘Bloc Party’ inspired with shouty overtures to the singtalking. ‘Colour’ doesn’t veer too far from the Rotary Ten School of thought, with equally fast changing time signatures and melodic post-rock inclinations. Both records askew dreamy post-rock on its mathy axis and make it something that much cooler.
Released 21/04/08 on Xtra Mile.
