Drawing in influence from every corner of the musical border, Plugs are making it very difficult for us to categorise them. ‘That Number’ sounds summer-Carribean-style in places before dressing itself up in a bass-heavy outfit, varying between structures, each one working as well as the other, it’s a difficult one to get your head round, but a pleasurable experience from the very start. Sounding better the louder it’s played, the words “that number looks familiar” recur every now and then, while jittering man-made sounds blast out from various directions. Overall, it’s a stunning 4 minutes of experimentation. The same can be said for ‘Transatlantic Air Miles’ which never leaves you standing in the same place for more than 5 seconds. The Plugs have certified themselves as one of the most thrilling bands you could ever come across these days.
