The second, maybe third, (who knows?) re-release of teenage anthem ‘Backfire At The Disco’, and still we’re all not quite tired of it. It’s odd seeing The Wombats still attempting to establish a place in the elite league of indie bands, even after their tidal wave of hype. So maybe releasing one of their stronger singles is a good idea. Nevertheless, this could be the time in which we all get a little tired of the Liverpool lads. Despite their fun and creative ways, re-releasing an already fan-favourite is never the way to go – getting on with the job and writing some more future-hits is a better attitude. And this single is no longer the charmer that it used to be in early demo form, instead it stands as distinctly average. Guitars sound too finely-tuned, Matthew Murphy doesn't sound fierce enough, it just doesn't quite hit the spot.
Released 14/04/08 on 14th Floor.
