It’d be too easy to dismiss Looker as mere sound-alikes, but unfortunately that is exactly how they come across on ‘Spit For Your Shine’. Taken from their debut LP ‘Born Too Late’, the song is pretty much standard three-minute garage rock fare, and doesn’t offer anything we haven’t heard before from the likes of Detroit Cobras and the Von Bondies. The raw production has a certain retro charm, and the bluesy guitar hooks and solos are reminiscent of the aforementioned Von Bondies, but it all just falls a bit flat. A bit of a non event, in short.

It’s not that Looker are bad; far from it, but they are just far too generic to actually leave any kind of lasting impression and are, unfortunately, instantly forgettable.

    Released 07/04/08 on Serious Business.
