Brooklyn duo Free Blood make experimental electro pop with off kilter beats – as demonstrated on their latest EP ‘Free Blood Part 2’, which features some great eccentric hooks. First track ‘Royal Family’ opens with ominous strings that sound like they’re the soundtrack to a horror movie. The beats, sporadic at first, soon kick in fully and from then on it’s a relentless ride, with call and response style percussive vocals between the male and female singers. Remaining still is not an option. ‘Grumpy’ follows a similar path. If ‘Free Blood Part 2’ is the Free Blood blueprint, then they have crafted a formula for catchy pop with personality that works well.
