The early demos were absent from drums but now that The Rosie Taylor Project are taking the genius highlights of the ‘Scotland Sketches EP’ into single heights, every change is done with subtle excellence and by God, it sounds even better than the early recordings which lured in the original chunk of fans. ‘A Good Cafe On George Street’ is effortlessly simplistic, echoing everything that The Rosie Taylor Project stand for. Trumpets send gentle shivers down your spine; atmosphere builds up towards the climax until you’re left more than satisfied. Jonny Davies serenades the line “strangely in my isolation/ I begin to dream of you I” as contributions elsewhere are equally as spell-binding. Quite how they conjure up such expert-sounding, delicate tunes is beyond us, but the friendly folks from Leeds never fail in doing so. This single, being their best achievement so far, is only the start from a band with a future only dreams are made of.
Released 31/03/08 on Bad Sneakers Records.
