Ungdomskulen - 'Modern Drummer'

The name Ungdomskulen conjures up images of goat-mask wearing, Scandinavian Satanists with a penchant for frightening lyrical delivery and little regard for the ear drums of their fans. I’m not sure if it was a nice surprise or not to find out that Undomskulen are not this kind of band, because they are so eclectic and generally all over the place, it makes a review of any of their material almost impossible! 'Modern Drummer' blends elements of disco and funk with pulse-raising, distorted guitars, which come out the other end of the mixer sounding like Mercury Rev jamming backstage at an Arcade Fire show.  Very hard not to like, but impossible to know why.
