“Bass Linear is the soundtrack to the financial and cultural recession of 2008”, so it says here. Great. Just what we need: a self-proclaimed ‘anarcho gothic nu-rave band from the capital city’ to convey, via the medium of a three-minute pop single, the socio economic climate we find ourselves in. Pity then, that The Humanity's song is so generic and indistinct that nobody is ever likely to take any notice (think about it – has any half-decent band willingly tagged themselves ‘Nu-Rave’). There’s some interesting use of enjambment in the verses so if they were to lose the musical bit, and turn 'Bass Linear' into a poem, then they might be onto something. This doesn’t say much for it as a single, though.
Released 17/03/08 on Happy Release.
