Jagged guitar riffs, urgent drums, Joy Division style bass lines… These are the kind of words almost synonymous with indie music nowadays. This Cazals single features them, with a sprinkling of electro influenced keyboards and an extremely gravelly vocal to boot. The song is about escaping the monotony of every day life - “predictable / repetition / you need a hand to change the condition.” It has an obligatory catchy chorus, and may bring success, but it’s more likely to be on the back of their indie predecessors paving the way. Cazals themselves on this showing don’t appear to possess any great quality or originality that sets them apart from the rest. ‘Life Is Boring’ – perhaps, but that doesn’t mean music has to be.
Released 03/03/08 on Kitsune.
