This is an ambitious single in terms of scope and instrumentation, blending a number of musical ideas and whims into a fairly concise song. It is lyrically expansive, with a few carefree quips like “So I put my heart in my mouth and I – I bit down on it,” ensuring it remains blithely entertaining.
Trumpets appear from nowhere halfway through rather needlessly, before a heavy ending that contrasts awkwardly with the serene beginning. Nevertheless, its attempted divergence from the accepted is sincere enough to commend, and its distinct sound stylish enough to enjoy.
Released 03/03/08 on Drowned In Sound Recordings Ltd.
