Foals debut album arrives soon on a wave of hype, so wisely they’ve chosen one of their most accessible songs to release as a single beforehand. 'Cassius' is lyrically blatant, with bleeps, riffs, yelps and horns all jostling for attention. They’ve even taken off the self-indulgent extended ending; it’s screaming to be played on the radio. It’s not particularly thoughtful and all the better for this. "Cassius it’s over/you’re second best." No explanations needed, this will fill dancefloors and heads hungry for hooks and highs.
Released 10/03/08 on Transgressive Records.
