Some things over the past few months have just been unavoidable. Whether that be the presidential candidate race, Britney doing god knows what or Lady Mucca trying to get her paws on Sir Macca’s millions. In the world of indie, Los Campesinos! are another to add to that list. New single ‘Death To Los Campesinos!’ is a quirky, cheeky, and happy go lucky offering with bemusing lyrics and quick wordplay. The chorus bellows: “If you catch me with my hands in the till/I promise, sugar, I wasn't trying to steal/I'm just swimming in copper to smell and pretend like a robot.”
The juxtaposing vocals of Gareth and Aleksandra Campesino do offer an interesting mix and work well within the set-up of this song, although there are moments where rather then sounding great it simply irritates. Certainly something lively though, that will no doubt warm the soul of the pretentious indie kid.
Released 18/02/08 on Wichita.
