Dancing somewhat recklessly between grungy resonance and indie punk, Blood Red Shoes welcome 2008 with a re-release of the searing ‘You Bring Me Down’. Admiration beckons for the ability to produce something so loud and outlandish from just a duo and gives hope to the quality of the pair’s forthcoming debut album. The chorus, which is accompanied by a bombardment of guitars, magnifies the intensity that bellows from vocalist Laura-Mary Carter. She wails: “Bury your head/Bare your heart/I can’t…I can’t.” Although it was released earlier last year the second release should have a more notable impact with the January blues longing to be smashed open with cutting reflection and optimism.
Released 04/02/08 on Mercury Records.
