The small flurry of hype that is heading Helen Boulding’s way could provoke a move that we now call an ‘Amy MacDonald’. Here, we have an average songwriter who managed to grab hold of a good producer and happens to have a nice, gentle voice. All she needs now is an advert on before ‘Location, Location, Location’ and the money will be zooming in her direction. ‘Copenhagen’ opens with a “la-la-la” and what follows is equally unimaginative. In fact, it’s not even as good as The Beautiful South’s adaptation of a fancy European city until the strings get a bit wacky at the end. Nevertheless, a song as la-de-da as this always has the possibility to propel the artist onto bigger things.
