For all the plaudits that were rightfully bestowed upon Hot Chip’s fantastic second album ‘The Warning’, I for one was highly sceptical that the nerdy five-some could emulate such fine electro-pop on their 2008 return. Thankfully, ‘Ready For The Floor’ proves these wholly unjust doubts spectacularly wrong. A bit edgier but still electro pop to the core, it perfectly melds a ridiculously simple techno riff with Alexis Taylor’s melodic, yet slightly vulnerable delivery. Like many of Hot Chip’s best moments, it’s the kind of tune that can get you dancing like ****ing Bez or equally soothe your stress levels after a hard day at the office.
Released 28/01/08 on EMI Records.
