For all the plaudits that were rightfully bestowed upon Hot Chip’s fantastic second album ‘The Warning’, I for one was highly sceptical that the nerdy five-some could emulate such fine electro-pop on their 2008 return. Thankfully, ‘Ready For The Floor’ proves these wholly unjust doubts spectacularly wrong. A bit edgier but still electro pop to the core, it perfectly melds a ridiculously simple techno riff with Alexis Taylor’s melodic, yet slightly vulnerable delivery. Like many of Hot Chip’s best moments, it’s the kind of tune that can get you dancing like fucking Bez or equally soothe your stress levels after a hard day at the office.
Released 28/01/08 on EMI Records.
