Sombre and sinisterly beautiful, ‘Now’ is the second single to be lifted from Stephen Fretwell’s impressive new LP ‘Man on The Roof’. Following the country sound of ‘Scar’, Fretwell returns to familiar territory with the acoustic soulful folk magic that conjured so many admirers. ‘Now’ adds a further example of the Yorkshire man’s effortless ability to create something so powerful yet undoubtedly haunting. There is a strange paradox as he delivers the opening line “Feels” to the delicate chorus, because it invokes a feeling of sadness and empowerment with just one note - reminiscent to Thom Yorke in ‘High and Dry’ or Chris Martin in ‘Yellow’. Fretwell’s repertoire is steadily gaining even more supremacy and this latest effort will ease the worry of those critics and fans who have already admired him for so long.
Released 14/01/08 on Fiction Records.
