Two years ago he stormed to success - in terms of getting toes tapping during middle-aged couple’s dinner parties and more of the same during 10 year olds birthday parties. Jack Johnson could have stepped onto the alternative staircase and avoided the fame and fortune – but can you blame him for not? The country singer-songwriter made acoustic dirge popular and he did it with style. This time round he has traded the acoustic guitar for the electric but has still somehow managed to make a song as slow-moving as all the others. But from an objective point of view in ‘If I Had Eyes’, he’s stuck to the same formula and it’s worked – his album will probably hit the top of the charts and it’ll be no surprise.
Released 14/01/08 on Universal.
