“Rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza sexual explosion of a song,” is how Kelly Jones describes Stereophonics’ new single ‘My Friends.’ Not quite as exciting as the words of the Welshman would lead you to believe, it is still a fine example of the band’s energetic punk rock sound and would fit comfortably alongside tracks such as ‘A Thousand Trees’ and ‘More Life In A Tramps Vest.’ The lyrics aren’t Jones’ finest and the song is simple in structure but there is something alluring, especially when the echoing ‘Dakota-esque’ solo kicks in. A fan favourite live and with an impressive cover of The Rolling Stones ‘Gimmie Shelter’ as one of the b-sides, it makes more impact than previous ballad ‘It Means Nothing’ and may give the cynics a better insight into the true sound of the band’s new album ‘Pull The Pin.’
Released 10/12/07 on V2.
