Covers are always dangerous territory for an artist. Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’ is a classic of chill out and held in deep affection by many. Luckily, in giving the song his acoustic beatnik treatment Newton Faulkner has trod carefully. Gentle guitar work building to a make-shift drum crescendo, this version gives a new sitting-around-the-beach-fire perspective to the song. Little to offend die hard Massive Attack fans. At the end of the day this cover is much like an after dinner mint on top of a full meal - unnecessary but a nice touch anyway.
Released 10/12/07 on Sony BMG.
