'The Hypocrite' could be about a politician, perhaps PM Gordon Brown urging restraint from workers in wage negotiations, while he earns twice as much as: "Do as I say, not as I do/ One rule for me, another for you." Like said politician, Theoretical Girl sounds aloof; her frosty voice contrasting with Seiji's rock-steady production. It's an intoxicating combination like Red Stripe with a vodka chaser. With no beat to dance to, 'Never Good Enough' is the flip-side of 'The Hypocrite' in more than one sense. No longer aloof, Theoretical Girl has lost all confidence on this pretty, xylophone-backed lament. "I'm never good enough for you," she proclaims.
