The Flies continue their recent spate of releases by pursuing a different direction to the trio’s previous single ‘High.’ Seductively waltzing through a dreamlike haze amid the elegant and chandelier adorned ballroom of Cook’s reclusive mind, ‘The Elements’ is expertly composed and discreet, placing apprehensive strings alongside uniformed and foreboding drums. The lyrics, “You bring out the devil in me,” are well placed to say the least and help provide the direct promise of mystery, intrigue and sinister ulterior motive, a quality by now synonymous with The Flies. Once more it’s a stunning effort from a guarded band that shies away from the limelight, but is one that guarantees to tempt and captivate music lovers everywhere.
Released 03/12/07 on No Carbon Records.
