Cat The Dog - 'Gotta Leave'

Brighton based punk kids Cat The Dog have a single here which more than reflects their love of opposites so obvious in their name. ‘Gotta Leave’ has elements of a rock number blended in places with a light pop/funk overlay all wrapped up in a punk snarl. It’s the bringing together of these diverse elements that make this song so intriguing, but does it work? The answer has to be yes, but not without leaving you confused as to why it does. Perhaps it’s the ‘less is more ethic’ or it’s the all out different sound, either way Cat The Dog will be criticised as sounding like just another rock band, but a word of warning to those cynics- just because they don’t hit the mainstream doesn’t mean they’re no good.
