Over a decade since his former employer’s heyday, Ian Brown is still in business for one simple reason – he’s Ian Brown. ‘Sister Rose’ – the second single from his fifth studio album, ‘The World Is Yours’ – like much of his solo material fleets with gentle orchestral moments that beautifully wed themselves to Brown’s familiar dulcet Mancunian tone. The same tone which so calmly delivers the line, “She said I’m just like a rose, I’m beautiful and I can hurt you with my thorns / Don’t squeeze too tight, ‘Cos I can blow up in ya face like dynamite.” It’s evocative, moving and of the typically high standard that we’ve come to expect from Brown.
