Part of the point, we suppose, of what the cool kids are calling ‘Baile Funk’ or ‘Funk Carioca,’ is that the music sounds licentious and dirty, the kind of unfinished pumping, rip roaring beats that caress your naughty bits, and funky rhythms that seep out ostentatiously like certain bodily fluids. In this respect, Bonde do Role are on a (body) roll, giving out illicit illusions of American Apparel fembots hollering to their girlfriends in filthy Brazilian slang. ‘Marina Gasolina’ is Salt n Pepper with a twist; for every dry humped hook; there’s a bucket load of sass. Unfortunately for a remix by electro royalty ‘Peaches,’ you’d expect slightly more than what’s on offer. In need of a good remix? Come on, get The Whip out!
Released 26/11/07 on Domino.
