Reverend And The Makers - 'Open Your Window'

One of 2007's great musical mysteries is why the passion and venom present in Reverend And The Makers frontman John McClure's interviews fail to spill over into his insipid and uninspiring music. McClure mercifully leaves his half-baked state-of-the-nation musings aside on 'Open Your Window,' but his vowel-mangling tale of a dysfunctional relationship is still cod-reggae which has well and truly had its chips.
The power-pop of b-side 'Dear Lydia' meanwhile is an enjoyable romp, even though pairing 'lydia' with 'did yer' should be punishable by a sound thrashing with a rhyming dictionary.
Released 19/11/07 on Wall Of Sound.
