Those habituated to friends thrusting perceived good musical intentions upon them (damn you My Bloody Valentine), will be all too familiar with these New Y’oiks repackaging the self-celebratory shoegaze genre into something altogether more palatable. Asobi Seksu's new single ‘Strawberries’ cometh from the depths of the Tokyo street vending machine amass psychedelic sweet wrapper graphics and hails remixes from the ‘too cool’ likes of CSS, The Whip and Ulrich Schnauss. The Whip remix is something pretty special; the aural equivalent of e numbered binges whilst finger flicking the crap out of a street urchin down the arcades. Schnauss’s remix, on the other hand, provides a cerebrally simulated Icelandic freeze-out. In a word: Lush (maybe even the ‘Light from a Dead Star’ kind).
Released 12/11/07 on One Little Indian.
