This time last year, I didn’t think I’d be saying anything like this in a review. In the new Violets single, there’s the sound of guitar fused with electronica, backed with dominant female vocals and catchy rhythms to do more than just nod your head to. But for some reason, I feel like I’ve heard it all before. Many will have to same opinion too. It’s unfortunate for The Violets. If they’d released 'Troubles of Keneat' mid-summer along the likes of NYPC and others, more attention would have been granted. With credit this is an interesting song, but if would have been a thousand times more exciting if released quite a bit earlier. Let’s just say that were beaten to it. The accompanying b-side is more guitar dominated and the vocals are out of tune yet perfectly suitable. They show that there’s more to them than the garage-new wave style, and that they can reach out of the “trap” they’re in before we all get bored of hearing the same thing.
Released 01/10/07 on Angular.
