Norwegian singer Ida Maria isn’t happy. She’s another girl with a mucked-up life, and wastes no time in her songs to tell us so. Her songs, admittedly full of energy and enthusiasm, are hardly beautiful in their angst-ridden state. There’s a hint of Bjork about her voice, (the inevitable Scandinavian comparison), but it’s deeper and even less suited to holding a tune. Ah, that’ll be why she shouts… Being unhappy and putting it in a song with loud guitars and drums doesn’t make it punk, although that’s the look she’s going for. ‘Oh My God’ may make her feel better about her life, but is unlikely to improve yours.
Released 01/10/07 on Nesna Records.
