Before we delve into the politics of appropriating an already decent band’s joie de vivre, we must first exclaim that London quartet Noah and the Whale are not a bad band. ‘Five Years Time’ is a cute little single, guilty of overusing the words ‘love’ and ‘sun’ by a million miles but apparently offending to no one. If you think of Noah and the Whale as vomited from the innards of Architecture in Helsinki’s neon coloured raincoats, however - after appropriating the winning recorder/ukulele/fiddle and cutesy handclaps of AIH fame - then there really is something offensive about this band. And that is that they are basking in sunlight that belongs to a far greater band.
Released 24/09/07 on Young and Lost Club.
