After a few listens of new single ‘Mouthwash’ one is left feeling that the process by which Kate Nash pens these songs is a complete mess. This song, like many of her others are a jumble of piano riffs, angst-ridden lyrics and crashing drums. But no-one can deny that the follow-up to the smash hit ‘Foundations’ isn’t one big captivating mess. From start to finish Nash lays her life bear with unashamed confidence. Indeed, it is such determination allows her to deliver lines like “This is my brain,” and get away with it. Such lyrics that would normally lead to an outpouring of s****ing from all and sundry are perfectly in place here, and that is a testament to Nash’s song writing prowess.
Released 01/10/07 on Polydor.
