As ridiculous as ‘grindie’ sounds, Lethal Bizzle is fast-becoming the undisputed champion of the hybrid genre. ‘Police On My Back’ is a bitter-sweet reflection his pre-music days as a small-time car thief, and when I say small-time, we’re talking Fiat Punto’s. Set against a well-suited sample by The Clash, it’s a surprisingly uplifting and humorous, danceable punk track about the ‘boy that done good’.
AA-side ‘Selfridges Girl Not On Myspace’ is also a welcome departure from his ‘alpha male’ fighting talk on album ‘Back to Bizznizz.’ Bizzle goes shopping in the top-notch department store for cool trainers and cooler women, but inevitably leaves with only one in the bag. Everyone’s been there and done that, even the most hardened of rappers, and it is this earnest, geeky side to which Bizzle owes his universal appeal.
Released 01/10/07 on V2.
