By listening to The Deodates with interest, you could despise this band with plenty of motive. Similarities to The Fratellis (lyrics being “ba-do-daa-ba-do-da-da”), Hard Fi and The Pigeon Detectives? God help us. Destined for stardom on Radio 1 and advert after advert? Yeah, maybe. Why does all annoying music have to be catchy too? People are going to latch onto this band soon, calling them the next big thing and ignoring the tiny bit of originality that they have left.
The soul that lies beneath, 'Before The Bench,' isn’t too tricky to discover, and it exposes a white light into our heads, making them a little bit loveable. It’s early days though. If the UK finds itself surrounded on all sides by the Salford two-piece (yes, two piece) then the world of indie could collapse. Problem is, these guys aren’t in it for the money, they’re influenced by The Clash (aren’t we all) and Marvin Gaye. They have the potential to stand out from the crowd, so I urge them to do so.
Released 29/10/07 on Taboo Music.
