The Envy Corps' latest offering opens with the lyrics "I met you in the middle of a rain cloud"; interesting when the release follows news that guitarist Brandon Darner was rushed to hospital with a stroke last week. Sadly, it seems that rain clouds are a plenty at present. If we were superstitious, we might construe that this has something to do with the operatic origins of the single’s namesake; keepers of ‘das rheingold’ (literally: gold). Are Envy Corps emblazoned in a Lord of the Rings style protection racket, living free from human influence? We’re gonna go with: no. 'Rhinemaidens' is a pretty good single; sure, it’s no 'Story Plan', but clever in a ‘some people have too much time’ kind of way.
