Scottish folk wizard King Creosote returns after a two-year absence with this, the first single to be taken from his upcoming album ‘Bombshell’. And, by the sound of ‘You’ve No Clue Do You’, at least some of that time has been spent down the disco. Yep, King Creosote’s gone electric.
Well, sort of – the acoustic guitar’s still here, but so are synths, drums, strings and multi-layered harmonies all combining to make a swirling, sprawling piece of pop. That’s right, POP. And eighties pop at that. And it’s great. Equal parts bitter and melancholy, namechecking characters from Cluedo, ‘You’ve No Clue Do You’ evokes the feeling of finding yourself having an argument with someone who’s had a few, but in a good way. Gorgeous.
