With solo projects cast aside, Rilo Kiley reconvene with gusto on 'The Moneymaker'. Jenny Watson's sojourn into country territory with her 'Rabbit Fur Coat' solo record was seemingly a red herring; her vocals here are strident and full-blooded, and the track itself is a ballsy, almost glam-rock stomp. It's nowhere near as strong a single as the likes of 'Portions for Foxes' from previous album 'More Adventurous', and stands out only due to its marked contrast from their recent work. Yet this newfound confidence and directness could make for an album that is yet another progression: some bands just weren't made to retread old ground.
Released: 20/08/07 on Warner Bros.
