‘Friday’, the second single from loveable rockers Goldspot, recently took grumpy Glastonbury goers by storm (pun intended). Cheerful, melodic and unashamedly pop-rock, the song is refreshingly free from the give-me-a-break angst so many soft rockers are guilty of. With a mixed bag of influences, the most unusual is the Indian sitar that opens the song. Sid Khosla does a great job of the vocals, taking the unique clarity of Johnny Borrell, but choosing to leave his moronic arrogance at the door in favour of a charm more akin to Travis. The vocals propel the track, but are complimented with some interesting string work that manages to lift the song without overpowering it. My advice - pour a pear cider, sit back and enjoy.
