Stripped down with just a piano as backing, Joan As Police Woman release the musical equivalent of fairy cakes, butterflies and ballerinas. ‘Real Life’ wouldn't seem out of place in the background of a sickly romantic Hugh Grant scene with it's gentle tune that drifts along beautifully. We’re not entirely sure what the lyrics are about though. Probably something about being in love. After listening to it for around a gazillion times, we still get carried away with the lovely lovely tune and don’t really get the hang of what’s actually being sung. She could be singing about herpes and we’d still be going ‘ah, this is nice isn’t it?' But, its not a terrible thing, a good solid melody can override words just fine and this does the job well. Despite it’s ‘niceness’, the softness of the vocals could be seen as an, ahem, cop out as we all know JAPW are capable of more challenging notes and more ear pricking ditties.

    Released 30/07/07 on Reveal Records
