Just Jack is a funny one. A sporadically excellent debut album is widely overlooked, then one track - the admittedly brilliant 'Starz in their Eyes' - sees him being hailed as the next 'street laureate'. But while 'Starz...' coupled some top-drawer funk-pop with timely, observational lyrics, 'Writer's Block' is one of those most baffling of tracks: a song about nothing happening. Jack's vocals have never been a selling point, but here their mind-bending monotony cause the track to sound like a disinterested man reading aloud from a rhyming dictionary over a Jamiroquoi b-side. Higher recommendations have been known.
