Homme and his bunch of desert dwelling cohorts are back with ‘3’s & 7’s’, just thank the gods of rock they’re back on excellent form yet again. From the opening guitar riff that will have you air-guitaring around the room, to the sultry slide guitar licks, to the vitriolic lyrics fuelling the Olivieri-Homme fire that has been raging for some time, Homme shows who was king when it came to writing the tunes that would rattle around in your head for days as ‘3’s…’ is an instant classic for QOTSA. The lead single from new album ‘Era Vulgaris’ throws down the gauntlet completely and apologises to no one, with beef that would make Snoop Doggs toes curl, Homme's heart is out on his sleeve and he doesn’t want to kiss and make up. Lyrics like “Broke laid to waste/will turn to sweet nothings/that kiss you goodbye/ the truth hurts so bad/wouldn’t you say” fill the newest offering from a band finally finding their strongest foothold without their infamous bass player. It is a fantastic track that will set tongues wagging in anticipation for an album that will surely blow the cobwebs away.
