Let's be clear from the start: To My Boy are BRILLIANT. Previous singles 'X-Ray' and 'The Grid' have fizzed along with madcap glitchy beats and Jack Snape's staccato vocals, and their live shows are cauldrons of wired energy. Disappointingly, 'Model' isn't quite on a par with what has gone before. Suitably geeky lyrics (inspired by designing a computer program) and the synergy of laptop and live guitar are all present and correct, but it lacks the catchiness of previous efforts. It's also seems more controlled and considered, which while lacking the fun of sounding like it could all fall apart at any moment, bodes well for variety and a touch of (gulp) maturity on forthcoming album Messages.
