The Zico Chain are East Londoners, but it's hard to imagine them propping up the bar at the Old Blue Last - instead, their sound evokes cacti, Jack Daniel's and men called Chip. The riff in 'Where Would You Rather Be?' is directly from the QOTSA style guide, with a nod to 'Hitchin' A Ride' and a dash of Motorhead thrown in. With enough howling vocals to boost the share price of Hall's Soothers, this is a brash and supremely confident-sounding debut single. British rock needs to find its voice and stop being in thrall to the American sound, but The Zico Chain show that copyism, when done well, can be fun in its own right.
