This record is like a musical version of the old Question of Sport game where they patch three sports stars faces together and you have to recognise them from the hair, eyes and nose and the chin. Some melt into a pleasing, maybe even more attractive version of the individual parts, some look like Sloth from The Goonies at a fancy dress party, however this song falls somewhere in the middle, Martin Keown with lipstick and a boob job perhaps? Wait that is worse isn’t it?
'Blood Red Blood' by Texan four piece Voxtrot continue to change the style and tempo of the music within the song whilst maintaining the almost incessant vocals that leave lead singer, Ramesh Srivastava, gasping for breath on several occasions. “I’m just trying to do my best, I’m not of afraid of life I’m afraid of death” is a chorus that screams familiarity as soon as you hear it. One part The Shins (who they have supported recently), one part Belle and Sebastian with a touch of Guillemots thrown in for good measure Blood Red Blood hints that they have all the ingredients to stake their claim at a place with those illustrious names.
