What’s this? Yet another ironic cover of an RnB tune by a rock band? Jo Whiley has got a lot to answer for. Full marks to Bowling For Soup for not taking themselves too seriously and all that, but actually releasing this sort of thing as a single (albeit an iTunes exclusive) is taking the joke a step too far. Even worse, it’s not very good. These sorts of covers only work if they’re genuinely funny, or if they end up being better than the original. This is neither. At least the Fergie version was catchy. If you’re one of the BFS fans who “demanded” this be made available for purchase – rejoice! Everybody else just move along. Unless you find somebody repeatedly shouting “Oh snap!” for four minutes to be the pinnacle of hilarity (in which case you’d probably still be better off picking up the original).
