In 100 years time musical archaeologists will come to see Mika as the point at which pop not only ate itself, but exploded in a disorientating head**** of uber-campery, firework-induced colours and enough melody to make the Scissor Sisters sound like Metallica by comparison. ‘Love Today’ continues the Lebanese prodigy’s habit of breaking down the barrier between standard pop detachment, and singing about himself in a clever-clever, artifice-breaking way. With his Bee Gees falsetto, one envious eye on George Michael’s Wembley Stadium shows, Mika is here to force an opinion out of you. The scary/reassuring thing (depending on where you stand) is that ‘Love Today’ is one of his more subtle moments.
