More Lady Sovereign

Plugging away for what seems like far too long Lady Sovereign is trying again with ‘Those Were The Days’. Bizarre as it is Lady Sov is signed to Def Jam Records. Let’s put that in context- it’s like Mika signing to Domino or Mcfly being on Rough Trade, it really doesn’t make sense. Being on a hip-hop major has afforded Sov expensive production and DJ scratches by DJ AM (a.k.a Nicole Richie’s ex). Neither of these however saves the track from being forgettable. A lazy nostalgic rap about Sov’s past- “Used to race down the hill in old Safeway trolleys, I wasn't indoors playing with Barbies or dollies, I was outside jumpin' off walls or playin' foot ball, Or getting chased by the local pit-bull.” Thing is we don’t believe it as Lady Sovereign was clearly just the angsty girl at drama school who could do a good chav accent. Jay- Z has clearly lost his mind signing this rubbish.
