Hang on, I thought Thirteen Senses only made gentle, breezy indie-lite? This is something different, this actually sounds… exciting. There must be some mistake, surely? Nope. Apparently somebody spiked their cocoa with RAWK when they weren’t looking: 'Download' here they come! Well, maybe that’s going too far but compared to some of their earlier material this is ‘The Ace of Spades.’ In a similar vein to Keane and Embrace, they appear to have mastered the quiet/loud dynamic for album number three and have also injected some much needed urgency to their sound. Guitars race along at what they must consider breakneck speeds on the chorus and there’s no danger that anybody will nod off halfway through. In short: it’s Thirteen Senses but with a bit more oomph! Good on them.
