This Et Al are a band that is hard to pigeonhole; with the epic guitars and echoing vocals, the Yorkshire quartet open with all the grandeur of Muse, but without the prog influence. Vocally, singer Wu is more restrained than Mr Bellamy, which at times jars with the intensity of the hard rock music. When he gracefully sings, “We’re taking over”, it’s a little hard to believe they really have it in them to even take over a lorry on the motorway. B side, ‘The Mother Position’ starts out promisingly; with darker tones and a goth edge reminiscent of A.F.I. Here, the grinding guitars work well with the delicate, carefully composed harmonies.
