‘Lil Star’ is the latest offering from Kelis’ fourth album and features Cee-Lo of Gnarls Barkley fame. To be honest, Kelis herself puts her finger right on the pulse saying, “there is nothing special about me”. Too right, love, and this single is perfect proof. It's boring and repetitive – verse, chorus, verse chorus – which are all practically identical. There isn’t even anything interesting on the B-side, just the album version (slightly longer and therefore even blander) and an instrumental. Filler, anyone? In the track’s favour, the trumpet sounds at the beginning of the track is quite tasty, but this is a 20 second relief out of 3 and a half minutes of rubbish.
