2007 is fast turning out as the year of electronica tinged indie (Wasn't that 2006 and 2005?! Ed.), and where Klaxons and CSS are headlining the bill, it is brilliant bands like Shy Child that are providing variety. ‘Drop The Phone’ is dripping with funky, electro beats throughout, and somehow manages to slip in a brief saxophone solo without it sounding out of place. Second track, ‘Down On Yourself’ opens sounding like The Knife on speed and soon develops into a restless, indefatigable drum beat with spasmodic synth and vocal overlay. And all of this with just two guys, drums and the all important keyboard guitar. Innovative and energetic, this is definitely a band to get excited about.
